Below are answers to frequently asked questions about CAPC's online courses, including the following topics: Troubleshooting Course Issues, General, Continuing Education and ABIM Maintenance of Certification.

Troubleshooting Course Issues

CAPC’s online curriculum, tools, and technical assistance are designed to be fully compatible with multiple devices: computer, tablet, or smartphone running all standard web browsers.

Refresh your browser, or close and open it again. This usually does the trick. CAPC courses are designed to remember where you last left off, so you don’t have to worry about losing your work.

As a next step, we recommend clearing your browser’s cache or trying the course in a different browser. If you are taking multiple courses in one time period, we recommend clearing your cache before taking each course.

If you continue to have problems, email [email protected].

First, try scrolling down on your screen. Sometimes the arrow for moving to the next screen just isn't visible yet. You can also try zooming out so you can see the arrow. Hold down the control key, and click the minus/hyphen (-) key. To zoom back in, hold down the control key, and click the plus (+) key.

Second, check that you have clicked on all of the interactions on the screen. You typically cannot advance until you have completed all of them.

Alternatively, you might see a gray “next” button, which should be clickable to take you to the next screen.

If you try all of these things and are still running into issues, we recommend trying the course in a different browser or on a different device. CAPC courses work on computers, tablets, and smartphones and are designed to remember where you last left off, so you don’t have to worry about losing your work.

First, confirm that you are logged in to your CAPC User Account with your work email and password. A few CAPC courses are open to non-members. If you took one of these open-access courses without being logged in to your User Account, the post-test will not unlock. If you were not logged in, you will need to log in to your User Account, and retake the course.

If you were logged in when you took the course, refresh your browser, or exit the course page and return to the page again. CAPC courses are designed to remember where you last left off, so you don’t have to worry about losing your work.

If that doesn't work, we recommend clearing your browser’s cache or trying the course in a different browser. If you continue to have problems, email [email protected].

In order to receive a completion/CE certificate, the following steps must be completed:

  1. Log in to your User Account
  2. Complete the entire course
  3. Take the post-test
  4. Complete the course evaluation

You can always go back to the course page and finish any incomplete steps since CAPC courses are designed to remember where you last left off.

A few CAPC courses are open to non-members. If you take one of these open-access courses without being logged in to your CAPC User Account, you will not receive a completion/CE certificate. If you were not logged in, we don't have a way to see if you completed the course and add it to your account. You must log in to your User Account, and retake the course.

General

CAPC courses work on a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Each course has an estimated duration in the Accrediting Bodies information. On an individual course page, under What You'll Earn, click on "View Accrediting Bodies."

You don't have to complete the entire course in one sitting. CAPC courses are designed to remember where you last left off, so you don’t have to worry about losing your work.

A complete list of your certificates can be found in the Course History and Certificates section of your CAPC Dashboard. To access your Dashboard, you must be logged in to your User Account.

Each continuing education certificate (or Verification of Attendance certificate if you did not select a CE type) and CAPC Designation certificate can be downloaded, saved, and/or printed. You can also print your entire transcript by right-clicking anywhere on the Course History page and then clicking "Print."

Your certificates are also available on the individual CAPC course pages, so long as you are logged in. Look for "Step 4: Download your certificate."

Yes, CAPC courses can be retaken, and retakes are reported to your organization. Go to the course page and select “Retake the course.” Continuing education credits can only be earned the first time the course is completed. You will receive Verification of Attendance (VOA) certificates for retakes.

Note: The date you first completed the course for CE is reflected in the confetti box at the top of the course page.

CAPC is committed to offering the most up-to-date clinical information and techniques in our online training courses. We periodically update our courses to reflect new information. Our new courses are even more interactive, with updated case studies and graphics, and we are integrating health equity content throughout.

When new versions of courses come out, the old ones are archived. Your CAPC Designation in any updated unit will start fresh, and you will need to take all of the new courses to earn Designation status. You'll also earn new CEs. Make sure you are logged in to your User Account before taking the new courses.

All of your original CE certificates and/or CAPC Designation certificates are accessible in your Dashboard.

Continuing Education (CE)

CAPC offers CEs for physicians, nurses, social workers, and case managers. CAPC also offers ABIM Maintenance of Certification (MOC) credits for physicians.

If you do not select a CE type when you create your CAPC User Account, you are issued Verification of Attendance (VOA) certificates by default. You can always adjust your CE selection, and even receive multiple types of CE certificates, by adjusting your Profile/Member Preferences. Previously earned certificates will be changed retroactively upon adjustment, and you can always change them back.

You can receive multiple types of CE certificates by adjusting your Profile/Member Preferences. You can select one type of CE at a time and download, save, and/or print the certificates, or you can select multiple types of CE to replicate at the same time. Be sure to click "Save" when you make a change.

No. You must download and submit your own CE certificates. ABIM MOC is the only type of credit that CAPC submits on your behalf.

Please contact your licensing/credentialing board. We have heard from many members that their boards do accept CAPC CE certificates from our other disciplines.

CAPC does not currently plan to add new types of CE.

If you completed the previous version of one of CAPC’s updated courses, your original CE certificates and/or CAPC Designation certificate will be accessible in your Dashboard.

You can take the new courses and earn new CEs. Make sure you are logged in to your User Account before you take the new course.

We recommend downloading all your CE and CAPC Designation certificates and saving them on your computer before you leave.

If you move to another organization that is a CAPC member, you do not need to create a new User Account. Email [email protected], and we will help you update your CAPC User Account with your new work email address. All of your CE certificates will remain in your account, along with the new ones you earn at your new workplace.

Maintenance of Certification (MOC)

ABIM MOC is optional. When you select Medicine as your type of CE certificate in your Profile/Member Preferences, if you do not fill in anything in the ABIM MOC section, you will receive only CME certificates.

Currently, CAPC only provides ABIM MOC. If you are a family practitioner, regular CAPC CME credits can be used to maintain your American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) certification. CAPC provides CME AMA PRA Category 1 credits. ABFM physicians may use a minimum of 75 AMA PRA Category 1 credits toward their CME requirement. This does not relate to the Part II: Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment requirement.

CAPC does not report credits earned to ABFM, and all CME credits are subject to final approval by ABFM.

When you select Medicine as your type of CE Certificate in your Profile/Member Preferences, skip the ABIM MOC section, scroll down, and click "Save." The relevant CME documentation you need for ABFM will be kept in Course History and Certificates.

CAPC sends earned MOC to ABIM on a regular basis. If you are selecting ABIM MOC, it is very important that you follow the instructions under Profile/Member Preferences because inconsistencies in name and ABIM number can cause delays.

Please allow at least three months for any earned CAPC ABIM MOC to appear in your ABIM account. If after that time they are not there, please contact [email protected].
