The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) releases a Dementia Model
On July 31, 2023, CMMI announced a new Medicare alternative payment model that will provide a monthly payment for a team responsible for assessment, care planning, care coordination, caregiver training, and 24/7 support. Importantly, the model includes coverage for respite services, expanding the ability of Medicare to meet caregiver needs. It is anticipated that participating Medicare providers (under Part B) will contract with other providers, called “Partner Organizations,” to meet the full requirements of the model. CMMI is now accepting letters of interest, through September 15, 2023, and anticipates releasing the complete Request for Applications this Fall, with the model launching July 1, 2024 and running for 8 years.
