Managing Death in the ICU: Integrating Palliative Care and Critical Care

Co-editor of the new book, Managing Death in the Intensive Care Unit, published by Oxford University Press, Dr. Curtis has dedicated his career to improving quality care for persons with chronic diseases and critical illness. We are very pleased he can join us as our grand rounds speaker.
Dr. Curtis will identify problems with current end-of-life care and palliative care in the ICU setting; review the state of the art for communicating with critically ill patients and their families; examine the principles and practices of withdrawing life support in the ICU setting; review the state of the art for integrating palliative care in the ICU setting; and discuss systems level interventions used to improve palliative care in the ICU.
