About the Presentation

This audio conference will review the January 2010 elimination of consult codes by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The presentation will provide coding “crosswalks” to the proper code selection, which varies by payer. Particular emphasis will be placed on how to handle consults billed on time, how to use the prolonged care codes and the appropriate definition of a “new patient.” In addition, we will review examples of likely Relative Value Units (RVU) and revenue impact based upon palliative care coding patterns. Recommendations for the review of current results and ongoing challenges to coding and collection will be presented.
