Palliative care programs are emerging as an important new trend in United States hospitals. CAPC has released its state-by-state “report card,” America′s Care of Serious Illness: A State-by-State Report Card on Access to Palliative Care in our Nation′s Hospitals. Based on a study published in the October 2008 issue of the Journal of Palliative Medicine, the report shows that wide geographic variation in access to hospital palliative care programs remains a barrier to care for America′s sickest patients.
