3. SPACES TO VISIT THE PALLIATIVE CARE LEADERSHIP CENTERS ARE FILLING UP FAST

Over 120 institutions have already registered to receive hands-on training and tools to build their hospital-based palliative care program. The Palliative Care Leadership Centers (PCLCs) - six highly experienced programs with strong track records in palliative care - are hosting site visits and providing ongoing mentoring to the rapidly growing number of hospitals and other institutions seeking to start or strengthen hospital-based palliative care programs.

Comments from teams that have participated in site visits include:

"The site visit program made all the difference. Because of what our team learned, we have increased our patient volume and budget -- and have much more legitimacy. It really helped to work with leaders in the field and have them behind us."

"This was an excellent experience for our team. We are leaving with the tools we need to make our program successful."

There are a limited number of opportunities to receive this hands-on training. Don't miss your chance - learn more at www.capc.org/pclc, or contact Sarah DeFeo at (212) 201-2683 or pclc@mssm.edu.

4. IMPORTANT NEWS FROM THE PALLIATIVE CARE LEADERSHIP CENTERS

Fairview Health System Recognized As A Top Integrated Health Network
Fairview Health System, one of the six Palliative Care Leadership Centers, has been ranked number 19 in the 2004 Verispan IHN 100. Published in Modern Healthcare, this seventh annual listing of integrated healthcare networks compares 568 regional, non-specialty healthcare systems across the United States. Fairview is in the top 10 integrated healthcare systems in the Midwest.

This achievement reflects Fairview's consistent effort to change how they deliver care to their patients. Verispan recognizes organizations that are using high degrees of integration to excel clinically and financially. Its study shows that top systems are improving outcomes and cutting costs by broadening continuums of care and better integrating disease-management and case-management.
