The Center to Advance Palliative Care has four new resources to help you start and strengthen palliative care programs. This issue of CAPC e-NEWS describes how to access these resources and summarizes key developments in the field:

1. DON’T WAIT TO REGISTER FOR THE CAPC FALL MANAGEMENT TRAINING SEMINAR

Planning, Funding and Sustaining a Hospital-Based Palliative Care Program:
Tools and Strategies for Success

October 23-25, 2003
Westin Horton Plaza

This three-day fall seminar is an enhanced version of CAPC’s previous Management Training Seminars on “Planning a Hospital-Based Palliative Care Program.” Seminar highlights include: Creating Compelling Business and Financial Plans; Funding Palliative Care Programs; Effective Marketing; Needs Assessment/Organizational Models; Quality Measures; Hospital-Hospice Partnerships; and Obtaining Philanthropic Support.

Healthcare managers including physicians, nurses, administrators and others responsible for the planning and implementation of hospital and health system-based programs are encouraged to attend. This program is approved for CME Credit.
Program Partners include: California Coalition for Compassionate Care; California Healthcare Association; California Hospice Association; California Hospice & Palliative Care Association.

  • Registration fee: $645 (individual); $595 (discount)*.
    Fee includes Thursday evening reception; continental breakfast Thursday, Friday and Saturday; luncheons on Thursday and Saturday; coffee breaks and educational materials.
  • Hotel group rate: $179/night (single or double occupancy)

2. PRE-APPLY TO VISIT PALLIATIVE CARE LEADERSHIP CENTERS

The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) is pleased to announce the Palliative Care Leadership Centers (PCLCs), an initiative funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to provide hands-on training and tools to fast-track the growing number of palliative care programs being started nationwide. Pre-apply now at www.capc.org to visit one of six premier palliative care programs and receive technical assistance in financing, designing and operating a successful program at your own institution. There is no better way to learn about starting or strengthening a palliative care
program than to visit a leading program in practice. Log on to www.capc.org
for information about each of the six PCLCs. Site visits will begin in February, 2004.

The CAPC web site is also a resource for palliative care employers and job seekers. The postings are meant to assist healthcare professionals by filling and locating positions within the palliative care field.
