CAPC Palliative Care Discussion Forum
Staffing
Dear Forum Administrator,
Thank you for your direction to the toolkit on the CAPC site for building a PC team. Many programs list professional chaplains as only peripheral members of the PC team, even though PC focuses on the care goals which often reflect the patients' meaning/quality of life. This tells me that chaplaincy is a core discipline of the ideal team. Why isn't there a job description for a chaplain included in this list?
In our case, we have a designated physician, social worker and administrative assistant- but the chaplain is only consulted on a case-by-case basis, again due to funding issues like so many other programs. What do you recommend as a resource for writing our own job description currently, with the hope for a FTE in the future?
With appreciation,
Susan
