You may want to consider linking your request for staffing to financial outcomes that have been impacted by your palliative consult service. For example demonstrate the outcomes and cost savings that could be realized by increasing presence and work in the ED and ICU including decreased LOS, cost of care, earlier transition to the palliative plan of care, etc.

Sustainability is one of the big challenges facing maturing programs. This will be one of the major topics at the CAPC Seminar in Atlanta in October. If attending the conference is an option, I would encourage someone from your team to do so. If not, I'm sure there will be resources on the CAPC website following the conference.
