| Re:Salary for RN or APN (by lynceronsky on 02/20/2008)
Salaries for nurses vary considerably across the country. The local market is commonly used as a comparison. We look at comparable positions with similar role responsibilities. It sounds like this position will have a major administrative component. This may mean it is a manager position with a different salary structure than a clinical position. Combined clinical and administrative roles are more difficult to match with similar positions. Palliative care clinicians are difficult to find in some areas, and you may want to consider a salary range based on that, too.

Our compensation data base, drawn from analyses of public sources for palliative care programs, suggests that the position you're describing (a leadership role responsible for building AND growing the program) would pay an APN in the NYC metroploitan area between 100-125K base salary. We suggest that a variable component be attached to the compensation package - this variable pay would be tied to attainment of the specific metrics that the program would be expected to attain. I'll be happy to explain off-line.
