CAPC Palliative Care Discussion Forum
Staffing
I am the only BSN RN (but curently in an MSN program) and run our part-time inpatient palliative care program (currently it is offered only in the ICUs but I do continue to follow patients once transferred). I oversee administrative duites such as maintaining a database, sending out surveys and review quality data. I respond to all consults (we have no dedicated physician, but lots of physician support), make recommendations, meet with families, and run family meetings. Like many others in the role, I coordinate with existing resources such as pharmacy, social work, and chaplain support. As a non NP, I can't bill for services but NPs in other services here do not bill either. Pain management is not a huge piece, the program is geared more toward end-ol-life care and complex decision making.
