I don't believe so. Our palliative medicine service only directly employs the physicians and an administrator. We utilize our hospital chaplains and social workers when needed.

No. A number of programs have been very successful with shared services. A good example is Midwest Palliative and Hospice Care Center in the Chicago area. You might also find it interesting to read about the collaboration between the staffing partnership of the Ireland Cancer Center at University Hospital in Cleveland and the Hospice of the Western Reserve - a palliative care project well-described on the Promoting Excellence website.

We only have physicians, a nurse and director directly employed in our dept. However, chaplains, social workers and other disciplines are a part of our committee structure and assist as needed.
