I started my program and am the only FTE. I am nurse consultant. I utilize the social workers and pharmacists and chaplains assigned to each unit and work with the attending. I see 30-40 pt's a month and am pretty maxed out with no help in sight. The program is just 2 yrs old. I am working on business plan to request more help- in my free time-haha.

I stated my program about 1.5 years ago and just recently got some help by requesting a "per-diem" position to cover for when I'm off, etc. I was able to hire another nurse and train her. Although she is still offically "per-diem" she is now working 3 days a week. I have been sure to do lots of extra staff education, etc. and other "highly visable" things....and tell the hospital that the only reason I am able to do this is because I now have some extra help.
We are seeing about 50 consults a month.
