Title: Top Strategies for Early Integration of Palliative Care in Children with Cancer
Date: Tuesday, July 31, 2012
Time: 1:30 - 2:30 PM Eastern

Recent research has demonstrated clear advantages for early integration of palliative care into the ongoing care and treatment of patients with cancer. The American Society of Clinical Oncology issued a Provisional Clinical Opinion that states “standard oncology care and palliative care should be considered early in the course of illness for any patient with metastatic (high risk) cancer and/or high symptom burden.” While most of the data has come from adult studies, early integration of palliative care principles among children with cancer is quickly becoming an expected standard.

Justin N. Baker, MD, FAAP, FAAHPM
