| Re:Neonatal Pallaitive Care Planning (by StacyRemke on 08/22/2011)
Hi. This usually takes the form of birth planning in practice. Identifying family goals for care, limits for care, and family wishes for the birth experince, baptism, etc. can be documented to ensure the experince reflects parnetal priorities. If children survive, they can be referred on to appropriate hospice or palliatieve care services. Many do survive birth, which can surprise families if they are nto prepared well for that. We do have a birth plan template I can send you if you'd like to email me: stacy.remke@childrensmn.org. It is also important to anticipate the baby's potential pain / discomfort issues and plan to address those.
