replying to AngieS. Medicare, medicaid and other insurances cover palliative care, use E&M code with symptom ICD-9 code. Must have consult order from PCP. Just APN consulting service..so does not include all disciplines ofered by hospice. Palliative care given "prehospice' when patient still skilled, still pursuing aggressive or curative treatments, or just not "ready" for hospice. Does not have to be "end of life", but patient must have chronic life limiting illness or terminal illness.
