Post Who can initiate a DNR/Treatment limitation order?

I am a palliative care physician and have been involved in designing our DNR order form/policy. currently we allow residents to initiate a DNR as long as the attending signs it within 24 hrs. more recently we have allowed APN/Pas to do the same. How do others do it? are there national organization recommendations on this point? thanks, J

Our policy treats DNR orders like every other order. Anyone who can initiate orders can write DNR with attending signature withing 24 hours (interns, residents, APN, PA). As long as there is documentation in progress notes of the conversation with the patient/proxy.
