As in all things balance is so important. We are continually challenged in this work to make an impact when we can and to step back when we recognize that we won't be able to make the impact we had hoped for. One of the things that seems to make a great impact in these tortuously protracted cases is the lack of medical consensus. Until the physicians who are participating in the care come together cohesively the inappropriate care continues. May times our team serves as the care coordinator or the ones that validate the position that the care is futile or no longer appropriate. Keep up your good work. I'm confident you are making a great difference. Sharol Herr, RN, MSEd, CHPN; Nurse Clinician/Education Coordinator; Mt. Carmel Health Palliative Care Leadership Center; Columbus, Ohio.
