DNR does not mean do not treat. We frequently have DNR pts in ICU with aggressive medical management, depending on the pt/family wishes. Unfortunately that attitude that a DNR pt should not be in ICU is what makes some pts resistent to DNR status because they feel they will not get the treatment they want. I have to do a lot of education with staff and pt/families around this issue. That is also true of the advance directive "choice not to prolong life".
