If patients are transitioned to comfort level of care, we than try to tranfer the patient to a private room on our oncology unit. We don't currently have a palliative unit so we try to consolodate these patients in an area where the staff is familiar with end-of-life care. Some families are comfortable with this move, others are fearful the level of care will change, so time is spent providing support and answering questions. If patients are actively dying, we leave them where they are.
