We started our Palliative Care program in May of this yearand I've already had 73 consults. I have provided the ICU director with a Palliative Care screening tool and ask that the clinical staff fill it out by day 3 of the patients stay. If the patient qualifies then the RN discusses the consult with the attending or one of the consulting MD's. This has been ineffect for only a couple weeks. Uncertain of how it is going to work. I'm against mandated consults feeling that the MD's should want this service for their patients and families.

Ben, Would you be willing to share the screening tool? We're contemplating implementing a similar process, and any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks!
