Dr Ferrell, is there any action planned or ongoing to to develop performance evaluation tools for PC programs based on the preferred practices?

There are a few projects currently in progress including work by Dr. Laura Hanson in North Carolina and Dr. Karl Lorenz with the Rand Corporation/VA in Los Angeles. The latest issue of the J of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS) describes some performance measures in that field. There is much work to be done in this area. The NQF practices serve as a guide as to what measures are needed or currently exist to best measure quality in our field. Betty Ferrell

Another way to think about this would be this: If in response to the guidelines, your program adds a component (e.g., a chaplain) or makes some other change, then evaluate that with appropriate process measures (e.g., when / where / how / with whom is the chaplain is involved in caring for the patient / family / PC team) and outcome measures (e.g., improved patient / family satisfaction with having emotional, existential, spiritual, religious needs met).

I'll ask the question anew since some time has elapsed since the previous reply. Has anyone developed a scorecard for program self-evaluation of services?
