What is the best way to convince the hospital administration that we need more staff and that growing hospice and homecare will be more cost effective in the future. Our hospice/homecare is owned by the hospital

Our program is also a combined home care and hospice that is owned and operated as a department of our hospital. We have successfully made arguments that we help the hospital meet it's vison, mission and goals for care, community service and also access to care. We have identified issues we help the hsopital system with, including get patients out into the community in a timely way, preventing admissions that may not be bnecessary, etc., all of which are very important issues for our institution. We essentially are doing what CAPC PCLC recommends: make your arguments to allign with what your institution cares about, identify metrics you can track that demonstrate effectiveness, cost savings, value to the hospital mission, etc. The blend of home care and hospice is advantageous because you can collect some revenue through home care fee for services for some patients who may not yet be ready for hospice, etc. The challenge then is to figure out how to blend the programs to address continuity of care issues and resource allocation issues. The full response to this question would be quite lengthy and I would strongly recommend enrolling in a CAPC PCLC program or attending the Annual Seminars sponsored by CAPC to gain a full picture of how administration can be "convinced" to enhance support for your program. Just a small pearl to start would be to find out from the current administration and leadership what their concerns, strategic plan and system goals, sources of stress within the system, etc. and try to match what palliative care could offer to address these needs.
