I beg to disagree. I am an ex SICU nurse and am now doing palliative care. Because of my ICU background, the intensivists and ICU nurses call me frequently to discuss withdrawal of support with families. ICU nurses deal with the dying nearly as much as hospice nurses, and not all are in "curative" mode. Many, not all, are very good and caring when it comes to EOL issues in the ICU, and doing what the pt wants, which may be "fighting" to the very end in the ICU on life support, or withdrawal and comfort measures.
