The more adult learners are engaged, the better the change they will learn and actually change behavior. Communication is a skill and, regardless of what "education" you offer, the key with skill development is practice, practice, practice. I really recommend role playing (in a safe and confidential setting). Role playing can be done as a "fish-bowl" exercise where just 2 learner volunteers or teachers role play in front of the group, or in separate dyads, perhaps with a 3rd person to observe. Often, just a few minutes of role play generates 20-30 minutes of debrief and observation.
To get learners into the topic, many have had learners watch movies like "Wit."
