Does anyone have a formalized orientation designed for a palliative care RN? When I started this, I oriented myself because there was no one else here who was doing this...

Hi Deb,
My husband and I have been serving as parent advisors on a Peds Palliative Care Committee at UNC Children's Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. I recommend talking to Diane York. She is a nursing professor at UNC School of Nursing who is a strong advocate for palliative care. I don't know if they have a formal orientation, but my case is she has thought of one or would be good to collaborate with in designing one. I have not asked her permission to give out her contact info., but if you go to the UNC website and do a directory search I'm sure you will find an email address and phone number. If you can't, let me know and I'll get her permission to give you her contact info.

HPNA has a nationwide list of approved educators for such a program. Go to www.HPNA.org and click on "Education" tab, then drop down menu click "Continuing education," then click "Approved Educators." There is another link for clicking on the list of approved educators and you can contact some in your area. They are labeled by state.
