Glossary:

General forum terms

forum

n. A group of topics that may have forum members start discussions within by creating a new post or replying to an existing post within an individual topic.
A forum is meant to facilitate subject based discussions, while being moderated in order to keep the discussion on topic.

discussion forum

n. A synonym for forum.

message board

n. A synonym for forum.

post

n. A message published to the forum viewable by the public.
v. To publish a message on a discussion forum.

top level post

n. A post that is not in reply to another post.

reply

n. A post which is a reply to another post.
v. To publish a message to the forum in reply to a post.

topic

n. A group of similar posts

topic thread

n. A more or less continuous chain of postings on a single top level post. To "follow a thread" is to read a series of postings sharing a common subject, or top level post.

moderator

n. An individual who has the ability to edit and reject posts or move a post to another topic.

expert

n. An individual who has been verified to have an informed answer in a particular subject matter.

author

n. The publisher of a particular post.

subject

n. A one line message used to describe a post or topic.

moderate

v. To keep a discussion on topic and enforce any policies of the forum.

CAPCconnect™ Forum

n. An online discussion dedicated to palliative care program growth. Connects you to peers and faculty for answers to your team’s most pressing questions.

Forum Administrator

n. An individual who may moderate the CAPCconnect™ Forum.

CAPC Faculty

n. Individual affiliated with CAPC who may both moderate and give expert advice on the CAPCconnect™ forum.

CAPC/PCLC Faculty

n. Individual affiliated with a PCLC who may both moderate and give expert advice on the CAPCconnect™ forum.

PCLCSM

n. (Palliative Care Leadership Center) Six institutions with exemplary palliative care programs, who through CAPC offer training to help start or expand palliative care programs.

Forum Home

The main page you are directed to when you click on the forum link.
Contains a list of all the forum topics.
Found in the top most menu bar of every forum page.

Topic Home

The main page for a topic and the page you are directed to when you click a topic of t the Forum Home page.
Contains all top level post created by the New Post action.
Found in the top most menu bar of every topic page.

New Post

Creates a post that is viewable from the Topic Home page.
Found in the top most menu bar of every forum page when logged in..

Reply to Post

Creates a reply to the current post. Replies are visible only from within the post they are associated with.
Found in the top most menu bar of every post page when logged in.

Logout

Log off the forum. Once logged off you may only view forum posts.
Found in the top most menu bar of every forum page, unless already logged in.

Logout

Login to the Forum so you may create new posts or reply to existing posts.
Found in the top most menu bar of every post page when logged in.

Join

Register for the CAPC Forum by providing some personal information and creating a username and password to enable you to login to the forum and start creating new posts or replying to existing posts.
Found in the top most menu bar of every forum page, unless already logged in.

Send feedback

Send a private message via email to the forum Moderators. This message contains the text you enter along with the topic and post of the current page.
Found in the footer of every forum page, when already logged in.
