Post Hospice level beds in tertiary care hospital
Author: docput
Date: Dec 9, 2009 10:48 am

My medical director came up to me the other day and asked about inpatient hospice level beds run by the hospital.
He was not talking about a designated palliative care unit but more the idea of beds that could be designated hospice level
if the patient were thought to be more towards end of life. The idea being to improve the stats of the hospital.
Does anyone do that in your hospital or know of a place that does? One place that I know, has the beds but as
a unit and given by philanthropy. Is there any way to pay for these beds with saved costs to hospital combined with what
insurance would pay for the bed with a decreased reimbursement?
