I am the clinical coordinator of a 1yr old palliative care program at a ~550 bed academic hospital. Our current policy states "no pca by proxy" I came from a palliative care program where we used PCA by proxy effectively in hospitalized pt's on comfort care. Does anyone have a policy they would care to share or experiences with pca by proxy that might be helpful?

I would like this information as well. We attempted to initiate PCA by proxy at our hospital for Comfort Only patients but could not get through all the red tape due to the hospital having a policy that does not allow this.

Under the PCA section, it allows use by the RN, we also allow use by the famioy in palliative care.
