Any time a patient has swallowing problems and you want to provide alternative food taste, etc. be sure that you have discussed the risks benefits of the intervention. If the patient is alert and assuming his oral mucosa is intact and he has a tongue, you could have the patient take a bite of the cheeseburger, get the flavor and then spit it out. Quality of life is so important and lends itself to our creativity.
