We looked at the Comfort Cart idea as well, but with the new Joint Commission standards with minimizing equipment in hallways and in rooms, we went with a Comfort Program - in which we provide the patient a brand new soft colorful blanket - "Comfort Cloak" and the family a bag of goodies - "Comfort Bag" that has a notebook, pen, lotion, mints, snacks, activity book, etc. We also have worked with our dietary department for large family vigils to provide water, drinks and fruit. This has worked very well for us, and the families have been so appreciative of the blanket to keep as a memory and the snacks to have while they are waiting vigil. We have been able to support this program thru a very generous grant from a local philanthropic organization.
