At our hospital, JACHO stated it should be a core service and can be generated by anyone. but it pays to be considerate of the MD's goals in the case.

I am the palliative coordinator for a community hospital in Georgia. I have been asking for some automatic triggers for consultation for the last 3 years. I recently discovered that the Joint Commission standard for palliative care requires that every patient that dies in the hospital receive the same high standard of end of life care. It specifically mentions that this should include all patients and not just hospice care or comfort care patients. Could you send me any other information you have regarding palliative consultation as a core service per Joint Commission?
