We have an NP led inpatient consultation program with the collaborating physician on the periphery. My question is that as a result of the goals of care discussion and patient/family chose to be a DNR
1.How do the NP's write that order in the chart?
2.Do you write it from the NP or the attending?
3.Do you notify the attending after each consultation with the outcome, what do you do if the MD takes a long time to call back.

Greetings--how DNR orders is written is different by hospital--check your hospital DNR policy, if there is no answer then you will need to investigate through the appropriate medical staff committee.
Re: notifying attending--it is excellent consultation etiquette to immediately notify the attending following a consultation; that oral contact makes it much more likely that your recommendations will be acted upon.
