It isn't uncommon to have physicians function in two or more roles as a program is developing. Hospitalists are often open to developing in that role. If at all possible, I would encourage you to have a physician or APN who is specially trained in Palliative Care. Some physicians have roles part-time in hospice and have palliative certification. Other specialties that may be interested are: internists, family medicine and oncology.
