Post Designing a PC Program with a .3 FTE MD

For our capstone project, my MHA team and I are researching/recommending a hospital-based consultative PC program for a 200-bed hospital in WA State. There is some concern from admin on how to carve out a .3 FTE MD for the consult team. I think a dual-role hospitalist would be ideal to start the program. Does anyone have any experience with how to make a .3 or .5 FTE MD work for a new program?

It isn't uncommon to have physicians function in two or more roles as a program is developing. Hospitalists are often open to developing in that role. If at all possible, I would encourage you to have a physician or APN who is specially trained in Palliative Care. Some physicians have roles part-time in hospice and have palliative certification. Other specialties that may be interested are: internists, family medicine and oncology.
