Center to Advance Palliative Care

What an exciting opportunity, to build a program from scratch. It sounds like your site has already learned one pearl – that volunteer services are rarely sustainable in a hospital like yours. Palliative care really can’t be an “in addition to” hobby – you will have a real clinical service that requires dedicated effort from key providers and support staff. Fortunately, your service will also bring value in many forms – clinical, operational, financial and academic/scholarly opportunities, which might be important given your setting – so the resources required to support your service can be justified. I’m sure forum visitors will have some terrific advice. I would strongly encourage you to consider assembling a team and participating in a Palliative Care Leadership Center training.
