We started our program in June 2008, so are a very young program. But I've been using Midas to collect data since fall of 2008 (and have entered the backlog of data from pts from June until fall). Our quality dept developed a "focus study" for me based on the pieces of data I wanted to collect, and now they can easily run monthly or quarterly reports for me. Some examples of data in the reports include: # of consults per month; medical specialties requesting consults; location of patients at time of consult and at time of discharge; LOS; ICU LOS; reason for initial consult; services provided or facilitated as a result of consult. The only drawback is that I'm the sole palliative care FTE at this point, so finding the time to do the data entry is a challenge. Soon I'm going to experiment with a retired RN volunteer here at the hospital helping me with data entry. Hope this helps!
