I have looked at costs savings by determining pts wishes and avoiding unwanted and expensive procedures (codes, feeding tubes). I compare the cost before and after palliative care and see that there is a significant amount of savings per day per pt. I have sent thank you letters to referring physicians sharing specifics about what palliative care was able to do for their pt.
I would be interested in writing a grant to train nurses and physicians in our hospital system. Does any one know of any grants available?
