CAPC Palliative Care Discussion Forum
Chaplaincy in Palliative Care Settings
I believe the VA has a palliative care education process for chaplains but it is only for VA chaplains. The Association of Professional Chaplains is working on a subspecialty certification that will presume board certification. APC President, David Johnson says, "A sub-specialty certification is included in the current APC strategic plan. The certification of chaplains in the area of palliative care is the focus of our current efforts in the creation of a sub-specialty certification”. HealthCare Chaplaincy is cooperating with the APC in this development. It plans to have curriculum in this area ready for beta testing in early 2012. So, in short, there is not such a certification yet, but one is on the way. Watch the APC and HCC web sites for further news.
