It is permissable for a hospice program to become a Medicare Part B provider. It is not necessary to create a separate structure or clinic for a hospice to bill for Medicare Part B services. However, State Corporate Practice of Medicine laws may prohibit a hospice from employing physicinas - in which case a joint venture with a physician group may be an option.
Hospices interested in applying for Medicare Part B provider status should access the following CMS website for enrollment forms and information: http:www.cms.hhs.gov/MedicareProviderSupEnroll/
Hospices will need to submit the enrollment form to the Medicare Part B carrier for their region. A listing of the Medicare carriers and their regions may be found at:
