Billing and Financial
Yes, under the categories of both Professional and Administrative Services, Medicare authorizes physician reimbursement for careplan oversight. The relationship of the physician to the hospice program is key to determing the source and rate of reimbursement. The CAPC website includes a good descriptive chart on this topic. Go to: www.CAPC.org and then select Hospice and Palliative Care Across the Continuum. Enter: Physician billing for hospice services in the Search bar and a list of tools will pop up. The very first tool is the Physician Billing Grid. Note: to qualify for professional services reimbursement, the physician service(s) must be designated by the appropriate CPT-4 code and include consultation, intepretation of an x-ray, CT scan, or MRI, or interpretation of a laboratory test.
