Hi,

Our new NP is certified for palliative care and is now working in our multi-specialty practice.

I would like to know if NP can't use speciality code 17 and there is no specialty other than NP for palliative care. How should she bill new patients that are referred to her by our own internist? Will she bill a new patient or established E/M visit? How will Medicare distinguish that it is a palliative care service?

Thank you,
Caroline
