Hi,
I wondering if the medicare rules changed in 2010 regarding billing for a family meeting at home or in an ALF/SNF when the patient cannot participate (in this situation-end stage dementia precluded her involvement). My understanding is that with the 2008 rules, the patient had to be present but I'm not clear if that is still true.

Medicare has not changed their stance that I'm aware of. There has to be a face-to-face with the patient to bill and E/M service and the face-to-face prolonged care codes.
