Were there any new Palliative care codes issued for 2011? If anyone can provide me with any new Palliative Care codes that they may know of, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

In our Palliative program, we use the Evaluation and Management CPT codes which did not change in 2011 to my knowledge. ICD-9 codes change regularly, so we subscribe to an updateable version of the ICD-9.

Short of scanning the entire ICD-9 manual myself, is there any source available to help me identify all of the available symptom codes appropriate for use in a palliative care setting? I have joined a service (as the only physician and medical director) that was established prior to my arrival. We are using a billing service that is pre-populated with a number of codes that do not seem sufficiently inclusive to cover all our needs. When I attempt to type in additional (appropriate) codes, they are not accepted. I have accessed other sources that suggest a reasonable list of symptom codes, but I'm not sure if they are inclusive enough to fill all our needs. We may need to consider contracting with a different billing service. I'm open to any suggestions (including going to our medical records department and reading through our one and only copy of the /non-removable/ ICD-9 manual)!
