Does a physician have to be Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine to be able to bill for Inpatient palliative care consultative services?

Physician billing is not limited by board certification. Of course we all hope the physicians are board certified but the pool is small and it is unrealistic to expect that all palliative practitioners are board certified at this time.

CMS does not require providers be board certified in a specialty before allowing them to designate it as their primary or secondary specialty.
