Jennifer, I don't know of any reason why you cannot cover for each other. Make sure you're billing the right codes for what you'e doing. Outpatient if the patient has been seen by one of you the other would not bill as new. Inpt subbsequent to the intital consult you'd bill subsequent visits during the same inpt stay. If you know you're going to hand off the follow up to the other NP, it's good to have that noted in the medical record.
