Post diagnosis codes

This might be really elementary, but I have only been coding symptoms as my diagnosis as opposed to disease processes. Since I will have a separate designation (after completing 855i), can I code for the same diagnosis that the attending provider is coding for?

I don't know why you would go away from using the the signs and symptoms codes. I have posted a more detailed response on the forum on the same subject.
