Post Coding for hospice residential facility

I am a fairly new coder to the hospice & palliative care setting. At a recent workshop I heard that a visit by a hospice-employed physician to a patient in a hospice residential facility would be coded with the outpatient evaluation & management codes.

Would this visit not be coded with the E & M codes for inpatient services (99221-99223) or (99231-99233)?

I don't believe that Hospice as a place of service is considered the same as inpatient hospital services. You should check out the CMS Policy on Hospice @ http://www.cms.hhs.gov/manuals/downloads/clm104c11.pdf
