Post palliative care billing

I was originally hired at my hospital as a hospitalist prior to becoming the medical director for palliative care. I was told last week that I can no longer practice at my hospital as a hospitalist as it is considered to be double billing. I would like to continue to work as a gen internist in some capacity in order to maintain my skills. How is this addressed at other institutions?

The experts tell me that the hospital is incorrect, there are plenty of providers that wear two or more hats. Ask them for clarification or talk to a higher manager; resubmit the 5500 for etc. If you need to discuss further you can contact Steve Pantilat Md at UCSF.

Many of us were multiple hats. I work as a critical care intensivist in the MICU and also serve as Chief of the Palliative Medicine Consult Service. Many of our palliative care consults come directly from the MICU, and even from me when I am the ICU attending.
