I would start with some productivity standards for the staff and look at the staff mix to determine volume of expected visits. Documentation often is a key to support staff visits. The documentation could also include visit start time and duration of the visit. If there is no supervisory person at the facility to monitor visits, you could also have a log book for entering time of visits and what was done during the visit. Perhaps even have the client initial the log. Sharol Herr, RN, MSEd; Palliative Nurse Clinician and Education Coordinator; Mount Carmel Health Palliative Care Leadership Center; Columbus, Ohio.
