CMS will begin reconizing the new specialty code 17 for Hospice & Palliative Care providers on 10-1-09. Please use below link for additional information.

Will this new code also be applicable to physicians who only practice palliative care or does the physician have to practice both hospice and palliative care to eligible to self-designate? Thanks!

There has been no information out of CMS specifying that providers must practice both in Palliative Care and Hospice in order to qualify for the new specialty designation.
